Annual Golf Tournament

18th Annual Golf Tournament
Ministerial Scholarship Fund

It's Tournament Tiime again! Each year this tournament has grown and that means more students are awarded scholarships to help them as they pursue a degree in full-time Christian ministry. Our goal is that they will graduate with no debt from education loans.

This year we are honoring Peter Gilderson. Peter emigrated to Canada from England in 1957 where he completed his Bachelor's in Chemistry at the University of Alberta, followed by a graduate scholarship at the University of Washington in Seattle. He worked in chemical research (and later in marketing in the petrochemical field) before coming to Mississippi in 1983 for a position with First Chemical Corporation in Jackson.

Becoming a member of Christ United soon after arriving in Mississippi, Peter joined the bass section of the sanctuary choir and the Tuesday morning men's Bible study group and from time to time teaches for his Sunday School class. Peter has also been involved with the Helping Hands ministry and Habitat for Humanity. He has been a member of the Ministerial Scholarship Committee for over ten years, twice acting as chairperson. Also, for nineteen years he has volunteered as a scorer for the PGA golf tournament here in Jackson.

In recent years Peter has enjoyed writing newspaper articles, and currently has just published his first novel. Peter has five children, thirteen grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. He and his wife Betty live in Madison.

Please join us in thanking Peter Gilderson for his dedication to this important scholarship program and the ministry at Christ United to connect people to Jesus.
